Growth Trends & Change History

DOT Lead Scout doesn't just show you the carrier today — we track how they've changed over time. Every FMCSA sync logs what's different from the last snapshot, and the Changes tab surfaces those movements as actionable signals.

How Change Tracking Works #

Daily FMCSA sync

Every night, we pull the latest motor-carrier data from the FMCSA public dataset.

Field-level diff

Each tracked field is compared to the previous version. Differences are logged with timestamps.

Weekly snapshots

Every Sunday we save a full point-in-time snapshot of drivers, power units, status, and safety rating.

Signal classification

The change classifier turns raw diffs into named signals like "Adding Drivers" or "Reactivated".

What We Track #

Roughly 80 fields are watched on every sync. The most useful for outreach are:
FieldSignal When It Changes
Total DriversAdding Drivers (positive) / Losing Drivers (negative)
Power Units / Truck UnitsFleet Growing / Fleet Shrinking
Status CodeReactivated (I → A) / Went Inactive (A → I)
Safety RatingImproved / Downgraded
Phone / Email / AddressContact info refreshed
Legal Name / DBA NameCarrier rebrand or restructure
MCS-150 DateRecent biennial filing — compliance milestone
HazMat IndicatorNewly authorized for HAZMAT loads

Change Signals You'll See #

The change classifier groups raw diffs into priority-ranked signals. These appear in the lead detail panel and can be filtered in your kanban pipeline:
Adding Drivers

Driver count went up. Carrier is hiring — perfect timing for new-driver physicals.

Fleet Growing

Power units increased. The whole operation is expanding — expect more drivers to follow.

Reactivated

Inactive carrier is back online. They need to re-establish compliance partnerships fast.

Newly Authorized

First-time authority just granted. Treat as a high-priority new-entrant lead.

Added HAZMAT

Carrier just gained hazardous-materials authority. Drivers need endorsement-tier physicals.

Losing Drivers

Driver count dropped. Lower priority — the carrier is shrinking.

Reading the Changes Tab #

Open any lead and click the Changes tab to see the full diff log. Each row shows:

Growth Trends From Snapshots #

When a carrier has 3 or more weekly snapshots, the panel computes a growth trend. If their driver count today is higher than their driver count 3+ weeks ago, the carrier earns a Growing Fleet signal worth a +15 boost on their opportunity score.
Why growth signals matter most

A static fleet means the carrier already has whatever physical-exam relationship they're going to have. A growing fleet means new drivers are coming on right now — and every new driver needs a physical before they can drive.

Filtering Your Pipeline by Signal #

On the Pipeline kanban board and Daily Action Plan, you can filter leads by change signal — for example, show me only carriers that are currently Adding Drivers. This turns the change log into a daily prospecting tool.
Combine with pipeline stage

The most powerful workflow is filtering by signal plus pipeline stage. For example: leads in "Connected" stage that are also "Adding Drivers" are the ones to call today.
